Eco Artist Spirit
Eco - Relationship
Artist - Creation
Spirit - Life
Eco Artist Spirit (EAS) is a sub project of OBLSK and is a 3-phase interdisciplinary project that brings together artists, researchers, environmentalists, city government, and nonprofits to regenerate urban dead zones through land remediation and regeneration and memorial land art to create public spaces designed to nurture the human spirit during life transitions.
Last year for phase 1. OBLSK curated a week-long public exhibition titled “We are Part of Something Bigger” where the artist made sculptures from biodegradable materials that were installed in trees at the Whetstone metropark in conjunction with the Columbus Arborfest. Before the Exhibition we invited the artists to a 3 day Eco Artist Spirit residency where Emma Kline from the OSU Living Art Ecology Lab led workshops on natural dyes and OBLSK artist eve Warnock led workshops on harvesting, binding, and sculpting with natural materials. Artist Kelli Anna curated the meals as well as the wellness program including acupuncture, and sound baths. GreenSpot Coordinator Christy Walters joined the Artists on the third day of the residency in a Public discussion about the Columbus Climate Plan and how artists can be leaders in the Environmental movement.
The participating Artists were Lance Johnson, Kelli Anna, Allyicia Hall, Sommer Renaldo And Stephan Thomas, Lisa Woodward and Heidi Howes from Motherful, Eve Warnock and Pelham Johnston from OBLSK. This Exhibition and Residency was funded by the Greater Columbus Arts Council Artist Project Grant. THANK YOU GCAC! Thank you to everyone who participated!
We are in the second phase of the Eco Artist Spirit project, building partnerships with research institutes, artists, naturalists, city workers, and landscape architects to remediate the soil, regenerate the land, and create memorial land art on an urban lot leased from the City of Columbus.
